Conceptual project "Kholod"(lit. - "cold")

On the 1st of March a conceptual contemporary art project "Kholod" took place in Lviv in Museyna sq, between Dominican cathedral and Dzyga gallery. It shocked minds of the audience with its creative visions and showed Ukrainian contemporary art -esteblishement the perspectives of Bienalle of contemporary art in Lviv. Sudden storm, wind and fall of temperature did not become an obstacle for a project. Great pieces of ice in a yard, ice on the walls, ice over the heads... People gather in a small "Dzyga's" yard. Wind and storm amplified emotions of cold... and everithing culminates.
The artists presented their installations, audience shared their opinions. It is said that if one thinks about something other then pain and discomfort, he does not feel them.
Besides the impression there is also a concept. "The art, which with full realization of context ill present a thousand today's problems, will become the hightst one" - wrote Richard Helsinback in the "Dada manifest".
8 "cold" installations sharing one space look like one huge theme with a few bright illustrations, or rather a few saparate important stories about the consequences of globalization for humanity and culture.
"Sad", "Monument", "Sell-off", "Self-destruction", "Brand", "Attraction", "Cooldown of a Brain", "Eggs in a string-bag", "Round table" - this names speak for themselves. But anyway there is a way for one's own interpretation, and it only depends on how lazy we are.

Sergiy Proskurnia about "Kholod":
I am thrilled with Vlod Kaufman, who activelly works as artist, as performer and as curator; he creates interesting projects. This what we have just seen is a very complex strusture, entertaining and impresing enough; beautiful and powerful with its influence on people; it is extemly deep in its meaning, like old parables of Aesop or Skovoroda (Ukrainian philosopher).
It is such a parable about fear, because cold is associativelly linked with fear - one is afraid to get cold, to become sick, and to die. Cold, snow and ice are images of closing down into death, into eternity, into permafrost. It seems to me that it is the image of the frozen space that human plays with, being the only able to deride his own death."

Sergiy Petliuk, participant of project and author of installation "Sell-Off" comments on "Kholod":
"The impression would be great but for weather, although weather could also be treated as a performance from the Most High one, and perhaps it all happeded as it was meant to be. Everithing that I've planned was completed succesfully. Sure, as it was the first time, there were some imperfections, but not essential".

There has to be yet more contemporary art in Lviv. The organizers of "Kholod" ("Dzyga" Art association, Museum of Ideas, Lviv city council) have already created an Institute of contemporary art, and the City Counsil agreed to finance a Contemporary art week. On Saturday a round table was held with participance of famous Ukrainian curators, gallery owners, art criticist and artists. They shared their opinions on perspectives of a bienalle in Lviv.
These were a lot of water - the installation of ice melted down, the round table got slightly wet, the conversation started to flow in unexpected channel... when there are many wise men, it is not easy to come to the consensus. Nevertheless it does not mean that nothing came out.
Roung tables are held everyday, and everyday we talk, but a result apears only if we stop talking and start to act. Thus we have only to wait till the end of Septamber, when the first experimental Contemporary art week will take its place.
